DAY 3: Dune Bashing & Bedouin Camp

Take a hearty 4-wheel-drive vehicle, put it on a roller coaster track made of a zillion tons of shifting sand, and you’ll have some idea what dune bashing is.

JR, our highly-skilled driver, said the tracks change every day

It was really thrilling, even from my seat in the back. The truck pitched and rolled and sometimes slid sideways, spraying sand up and over us like a huge, dry wake.

When we breaked to romp around in the sand, our driver (JR, a Filipino immigrant who lives in Sharjah) was only half-kidding when he said it was normal to be nauseous to the point of needing to vomit.
